In 1984, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first made their debut in comic books. Since then, they have become one of the most iconic pop culture franchises of all time. From television to movies, to video games and merchandise, the Turtles have captured the hearts of fans all over the world. And it all started when creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird self-published the first issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the living room of an unassuming house in the small city of Dover, New Hampshire.

From this small corner of the world the Turtles have influenced millions of people around the globe. For me, some of my fondest memories as a kid were watching the Turtles cartoon series and playing their video games. There is no doubt that the series greatly influenced my decision to start training in the martial arts.

And I know this is true for countless others world-wide. Which is why I am sharing an opportunity for those who were so heavily influenced by the Ninja Turtles to give back through a very rad cause.

You see, a resident of Dover, NH had a cool idea to place a historical marker at the home where the Turtles were created. But there is one problem – that house is no longer there.

But what is there? Well right on the street where the house once stood is a manhole cover. So instead of a plaque or sign – he thought, let’s create a custom manhole cover inlaid with original artwork of the Turtles! How cool is that? I couldn’t think of a more fitting way to honor the Ninja Turtles.

So here is where you come in. Everything for the project is in place and approved by the City Council and the Art Commission – now all that is needed to complete the project is funding. There is an active Indiegogo campaign to support this project that needs your support. If you are a martial artist who was influenced by the Ninja Turtles – or just a huge fan - and want to learn how you can support this project, then head over there using the link in the description below.

There you will find more information – including some really cool perks for those who donate. These include signed artwork from the creators, and limited-edition comics donated by the comic store where the first issue of Ninja Turtles was sold.

Best of all, any extra funding that this project raises will be donated to turtle related non-profits such as science centers, rescue leagues, and conservancies.

So, don’t wait! If you're a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and want to be a part of history, join us in our mission to create a historic manhole cover where it all started in Dover, New Hampshire. Together, we can make it happen. Cowabunga!
